Thank you for dropping by my site. I am Marion and I would like to give you a bit of background as to how and why this site exists!
Towards the end of 2012, while I was working in London, my husband reached retirement age. His dream of living in Spain was constantly on our minds and I was lucky enough upon returning from our annual holiday to be told that I could work remotely. Our dream had begun! My website blog Living In Mallorca (see link at side) charted the journey with all the ups and downs!
So what has that got to do with a site about diet, weight loss and health?
Well the easy living in Mallorca and the delicious food coupled with less exercise meant that within two years I had put on 2 ½ stone in weight! I found myself getting out of breath while walking even short distances and problems with my eyesight (cataracts) found me worrying and comfort eating.
I soon started feeling that I had to go back home to England. The feeling was intense and came from nowhere. I think the need to have an operation in a country where I spoke only basic Spanish highlighted my limitations and my need for familiarity. Little was I to know what would come next!
Fast forward a bit to the point where we had returned to the UK and had managed to find a new home and registered with a doctor and my life turned upside down when I was diagnosed with Endometrial Carcinoma. Luckily it was Grade 1, Stage 1 and a total hysterectomy followed by regular check-ups was all that was required.
Once recovery was over with I started researching the big C and found that obesity is definitely a risk factor for many types of cancer including endometrial, liver, ovarian, kidney, colorectal and postmenopausal breast cancer. That shocked me! I knew about obesity and diabetes but I never considered cancer. I was at that time classed as obese. Now was the time for action. This was my wake up call.
Fast forward to today and in 2019 I will soon be celebrating my second year of being at my target weight. My Facebook page Lose Fat After 50 was created to show my friends what the meals were like that I was eating – I have a big appetite – and how easy it was to reach target.
Also along the way I have been interested in studying nutrition as I believe that “we are what we eat” to be very relevant and although I was very lucky with the continuing check-ups I am quite aware that the reality is that everything could change at any moment and therefore I want to give my body as much assistance at keeping healthy for as long as I possibly can.
This is not the end – this is a continuing journey – and one in which I learn something new all the time. I hope you will find it interesting.
